This event is now fully booked.

Anthony Russell, lecturer and researcher, discusses the history, impact and changing role of Britain’s magnificent stately homes.

Britain possesses one of the finest collections of ‘living’ stately homes in the world. They represent one of the country’s greatest assets and its greatest contribution to the decorative arts worldwide.

This lecture explains their origins in British history, and their place in a changing society. It illustrates the most magnificent examples in all their grandeur and beauty, while considering  how they are to survive and evolve in the future.

Anthony Russell spent six years as a consultant for  leading furniture designer Luke Hughes, advising on the furniture needs of prestigious buildings, including museums, palaces, schools and cathedrals.  A painter as well as a lecturer and researcher, he is now based in London.

Presented in association with Wellington Decorative and Fine Arts Society.
