Join textile experts Shani Pillai and Joji Jacob for a one-hour private curators tour of their forthcoming textile exhibition Weaves of the World, showing at the NZ Academy of Fine Arts 2 – 13 October.
Weaves of the World is a collection of heritage cultural costumes, textiles and artefacts celebrating the rich multicultural and ethnic diversity of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Textiles and accessories uniquely express identity, communicate stories, and reflect centuries-old traditions, values, and beliefs. Standing at the intersection between cultures, textiles bring us together through their beauty and vibrancy and enable us to celebrate diversity. The exhibition celebrates both the uniqueness and similarities between various multicultural ethnic communities in Aotearoa and highlights how they have been connected throughout history by their textiles.
The curation of this exhibition draws from Shani and Joji’s extensive private textile collections, complemented by contributions of gifted and loaned items from fellow textile enthusiasts and intrepid travellers.
Come and enjoy a rich display of cultural and heritage attires, textiles and accessories, along with a glass of wine included in the ticket price.
