This summer tour with the Friends to the Waikato coincides with the start of the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival in February next year. The tour commences on the evening of Thursday 18 February and finishes early afternoon on Sunday 21 February.
Imagine having your welcome dinner in an award-winning restaurant overlooking the Waikato River, staying in a four-star riverside hotel, visiting specially selected gardens and galleries with informed guides and hosts, relaxing on an exclusive upstream river cruise and, what’s more, having the chance to absorb the Arts Festival atmosphere and attend events in the evening.
The tour includes the themed garden collections in the internationally-recognised Hamilton Gardens, key exhibitions at Waikato Museum and a day trip to explore the private gallery Inspirit at Tamahere, the unique and recently opened Tree Church in Ohaupo and the wonderful sculpture garden at Waitakaruru Arboretum, Tauwhare.
The details and costs are almost finalised. The cost of the tour is $520.00 per person. This includes three nights accommodation in a twin share room (an optional single room supplement will be available), a welcome dinner, two lunches, river cruise and morning tea, visits and coach transport during the tour. The cost does not include travel to and from Hamilton.
The tour is scheduled to start at 7pm on Thursday 18 February and end about 12.30pm on Sunday 21 February, in time to make the 2.25pm flight to Wellington. Feel free to ring the Friends’ office (04) 381 7051 for any queries and additional travel information.
